About Us

The Warren County Summer Music School (WCSMS) was established in 1989 through a bequest from the Harry A. Logan, Jr. Foundation to initiate a broad based summer arts program. Continued funding from Kay H. Logan supports the school in its mission to encourage and develop the study, performance and appreciation of the fine and performing arts.

The WCSMS is a three-week immersion in the performing and visual arts and runs in June following the close of the academic school year.  Beaty Warren Middle School is the site of this program. Students entering fifth grade through high school, as well as adults are instructed in introductory and advanced courses in instrumental and vocal music, dance, theatre arts, music theory and visual arts.

The faculty consists of experienced and certified arts educators whose qualifications include university degrees, educational certification and life experience. They mentor high school and college students interested in a future career in the arts, in a highly competitive intern program. WCSMS reinforces the arts-in-life connection through student performances and community outreach for senior centers, nursing homes and the outdoor "Pops at the Fountain" concert with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra in late June.  These performances provide student interaction with the community and highlight the importance of the arts in everyday life.

WCSMS in collaboration with Penn State Erie, The Logan Series and the Warren County School District has sponsored many workshops and concerts for middle school students. Featured artists have included such notable performers as the Tuvan throat singers, Huun Huur Tu, pianist Alpin Hong, the Imani Winds, So Percussion, Classical Jam, East of the River, and Olga.
